iHarare has learned with great sadness that an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 passenger jet, flight number ET 302 has crashed on a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. 149 passengers and 8 crew are believed to have been on board the flight and are feared dead.

Part of a statement from the airline reads:

“Ethiopian Airlines regrets to confirm that its flight ET 302/10 March in schedule service from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident today around Bishoftu (Debre Zeit)

At this time search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible causalities. Ethiopian Airlines staff will be sent to the accident scene and will do everything possible to assist the emergency services”.

The office of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has already sent condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones.  Writing on social media, the office said,


The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning


Ethiopian Airlines is one of the biggest airlines and is perhaps the best airline on the continent and is used by Zimbabweans and other nationalities when travelling across the continent as well as to other continents.



A spokesperson from the airline has just confirmed that everyone on board the Ethiopian Airlines jet died in the crash.  There were no survivors and victims  are from 33 nationalities.
