Man Arrested For 1979 Rape
In a shocking development, a 60-year-old headman has been arrested and charged with rape after an 87-year-old granny accused him of raping her in 1979.
The Chronicle reports that the woman (whose name is withheld to protect her identity) alleges that when the rape occured the then 20-year-old headman, Radios Nezvikonde, admitted to the crime when he appeared before Chief Ndanga’s traditional court. Nezvikonde then compensated the victim with two head of cattle.
The woman, however, filed criminal charges against Radios this year alleging that he damaged her leg during the rape and ever since then, the leg has been troubling her. While reporting the matter the woman said,
Despite the compensation, I have a recurring pain on my right leg. I attribute it to the rape incident and it reminds me of the sexual abuse I suffered at the hands of that man.
Nezvikonde who was sworn in as a headman last week appeared before Zaka resident magistrate Ms Gladys Nago on Tuesday facing a single count of rape. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody for trial.
